My very first frame from Mamiyaflex C2 with 105mm 3.5 Lebin Photo, Your Event and Wedding Photographer in Melbourne and Malaysia Check out more film photo on Le Bin Photo Film Collection. Im so glad had the chance to touch and get poison by a medium format camera. yes, It is Mamiyaflex C2 TLR with 105mm 3.5 lens. First, let's understand more about the camera. This babe is a medium format camera. Well, what does 'medium format' mean? As usual, I am shooting with 135 film, the width of the film is 35mm, as a designation for the cassette for 35 mm film , and it was the more economical way of shooting for both hobbyist and professional shooter. Each rolls could be 24 frames or 36 frames. For Medium format, it is 120 film, the width of the film is 56mm ( as shown, the film size is so much larger, and without any grid at the side ) , it enable more detail capture in a frame and giving more control of Depth of field. It is quite common format for commercial studio shooter as well as architectural kind of photography. How many frame (exposure) do you think it can take each roll? see below. 120 film allows several frame sizes: 120 frame sizes Name Aspect ratio Nominal size(mm) Exposures 6 × 4.5 1.35:1 56 × 41.5 15 or 16 6 × 6 1:1 56 × 56 12 or 13 6 × 7 1.25:1 56 × 70 10 6 × 8 1.37:1 56 × 77 9 6 × 9 1.50:1 56 × 84 8 6 × 12 2.1:1 56 × 118 6 6 × 17 3:1 56 × 168 4 Alright, that was a brief introduction into 120film. The one i was holding is 6 x 6 format, as shown, it appeared to be a square format. It is a TLR, Twin Lens Reflex camera. It is a type of camera with two objective lenses of the same focal length. One of the lenses is the photographic objective or "taking lens" (the lens that takes the picture), while the other is used for the viewfinder system, which is usually viewed from above at waist level. In addition to the objective, the viewfinder consists of a 45-degree mirror (the reason for the word reflex in the name), a matte focusing screen at the top of the camera, and a pop-up hood surrounding it. But, the subject will moved in opposite direction as it appear to be. It work as reversed 'left to right' which making a bit harder to compose. Photo from Mamiyaflex C2, Lebin Photo, Your Event and Wedding Photographer in Melbourne and Malaysia Check out at Le Bin Film Photo Gallery. This took me quite some times to focus and frame. And the extreme Depth of field as well as very smooth out of focus really amaze me, even in the viewfinder itself. Melbourne Bicycle. A square frame changed the level of challenge using this Mamiyaflex little monster. Owner of the camera. Medium format DO give you more detail as the film is bigger. Hence, a lot commercial photographer required Medium Format for their assignments. Street photo. Lebin Photo, Your Event and Wedding Photographer in Melbourne and Malaysia Check out at Le Bin Film Photo Gallery. Also, film is perfect for street photography. You can never pee on the photo! Film also have very good dynamic range. But it very between film. Corner of Street. Lebin Photo, Your Event and Wedding Photographer in Melbourne and Malaysia Check out at Le Bin Film Photo Gallery. Trying out macro/ minimum focus distance of the set. Aperture was set to f8, yet, I beat nothing. Seem like I need more practise on calculating DOF. Back to the blog for other post. In the nutshell, Medium format is totally a poison to me. Wish to own it one day. Special thanks to Eric for the camera. Lebin Photo, Your Event and Wedding Photographer in Melbourne and Malaysia More on Le Bin Photo Gallery. *Click the photo to view it larger. Hi all, This is an panorama I did back in Melbourne. It was made by 5 part of photos and snitch together later on during post production. If were asking me to do it again, I think I will give it a go, but with a different approach. This pano was taken with ultra wide angle lens attached on camera without any filter. In fact, I forgotten to bring tripod while doing this shots. Set to Manual, guess the exposure, set it 30 sec ( longest shutter I should do apart from Bulb mode ) and shoot on the ground. If there were any chance to take this again, I will try to remember bring my tripod as well as my remote trigger and filters. But overall, I am quite satisfied with these result. Nice weather on that day helps heaps. A few more photo taken about the same time: Another View of Docklands Melbourne Waterfront. Technique: Colour, Black and white, Post production, I knew we are now in 2013, but I still wanted to post up some photo where I took during last year Melbourne Zombie Shuffle Parade. The parade was held on 28 October 2012. Annual event happen in Melbourne. It was totally a fantastic chance for fellow photographer to train their photographic eye. It started afternoon 2.30pm (the weather is quite hot!). Everyone was ready near REB after lunch. All the participants are very photo friendly. Some of them even pose for photo. The range of their age also very board, there are small baby till some senior citizen members. Although I knew that my exam was around the corner, I did not miss this opportunity of photographing large event happen on the street. (yes, street photography is my fav, no control over the surrounding, or ambient, just snap what I could.) Extra Information, I was on a very simple set up: On camera flash with ultra wide angle, Canon Portrait Pic Style JPEG. (4,-1,0,1) The reason I shooting Jpeg was running low of memory, I would like to try off camera flash or duo camera flash next time.
